UCL's Official Requirement (2027 Entry)

According to the official UAT-UK Course List for 2027 entry, the following UCL Economics degrees require applicants to complete one of three admissions tests (official wording: "either the ESAT, the TARA, or the TMUA is compulsory"):
CourseUCAS CodeTest Requirement
BSc EconomicsL100Compulsory, choose one: ESAT / TARA / TMUA
BSc Economics with Study abroadL101Compulsory, choose one: ESAT / TARA / TMUA
The requirement is identical for both courses: sitting a test is compulsory, but you may choose any one of the three, and this page covers the TMUA route. A note on sourcing: UCL's own course pages could not be re-verified at the time of writing (site access restricted), so this page follows the official UAT-UK Course List 2027.

The TMUA at a Glance

The TMUA is run by UAT-UK and delivered as a computer-based test by Pearson VUE. It consists of two papers of 20 multiple-choice questions each, 75 minutes per paper and 150 minutes in total: Paper 1 tests applications of mathematical knowledge, while Paper 2 tests mathematical reasoning and logic. Results are reported on a scale from 1.0 to 9.0. For a full breakdown, see the TMUA syllabus guide and the scoring guide.

Key Dates and Registration (Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau)

There are two sittings in the 2027 entry cycle, one in October and one in January. For candidates in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, the test dates are fixed: 15 to 16 October 2026, or 8 January 2027. Registration is handled through UAT-UK and Pearson VUE. The UAT-UK Course List 2027 does not attach a sitting restriction to UCL Economics (L100 / L101), so choose the sitting that fits your UCAS timeline and register early; before you sit, read the test day guide to get familiar with the computer-based format.
