Cambridge Mathematics (G100): TMUA Requirements for 2027 Entry
Applicants to Mathematics at the University of Cambridge (BA and MMath Mathematics, UCAS code G100) for 2027 entry must sit the TMUA, a mathematics admissions test run by UAT-UK and delivered at Pearson VUE test centres, before interview. Cambridge expects you to register for the test yourself; Colleges use the result first to help decide interview shortlisting, then alongside the rest of your application when making offers. This page collects the official Cambridge position, the key dates for candidates in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau, and a concrete way to prepare with FrontierVUE's past-paper bank.

01 Cambridge's Official Requirement: TMUA Before Interview
Cambridge's official admission tests page (2027 entry) lists the TMUA as the required assessment for Mathematics, taken pre-interview, and states plainly: "You must register in advance for this test."
| Course | UCAS code | How the score is used |
|---|---|---|
| BA and MMath Mathematics | G100 | Compulsory, taken pre-interview; Colleges use the result to help decide interview shortlisting, then consider it alongside the rest of the application when deciding offers (cam.ac.uk admission tests page, 2027 entry) |
Two things follow from this wording:
- The TMUA is a hard requirement, not an optional extra: without a score, your application cannot go through the normal selection process.
- Its first job is interview shortlisting. Cambridge's official wording gives no cut-off; the result is weighed together with the rest of your application.

02 Test Format and Key Dates (China, Hong Kong and Macau)
Format. The TMUA is run by UAT-UK and delivered on computer at Pearson VUE test centres. It has two papers totalling 150 minutes: Paper 1 tests applications of mathematical knowledge and Paper 2 tests mathematical reasoning and logic, each with 20 multiple-choice questions in 75 minutes. Results are reported on a scale of 1.0 to 9.0.
Key dates for Cambridge 2027 entry (official Cambridge position):
- Test window: 12 to 16 October 2026. October-deadline applicants must take this sitting, and booking closes on 28 September 2026.
- Candidates in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau sit on 15 or 16 October 2026.
- Mature applicants in the January round: test window 4 to 8 January 2027.
The TMUA cycle for 2027 entry has both an October and a January sitting (in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau the January date is fixed at 8 January 2027), but under Cambridge's rules, standard October-deadline applicants must use the October sitting; do not treat January as a retake. Registration goes through the UAT-UK / Pearson VUE system, and Cambridge will not book the test for you.

03 Preparing for the Cambridge G100 TMUA on FrontierVUE
FrontierVUE's TMUA bank currently holds 18 past papers (2015-2023, including the official specimen) and 10 mock papers, 971 questions in total, each with a detailed worked explanation and a Chinese translation. The two most recent past papers are free to try.
A suggested route:
- Start with the TMUA exam overview and the syllabus guide to pin down what Paper 1 and Paper 2 actually cover.
- Train each paper on its own terms with the Paper 1 guide and the Paper 2 guide; for Paper 2's reasoning and proof questions, work through the logic and proof guide.
- Sit timed full papers in the past-paper practice area, using the time management guide to build a 20-questions-in-75-minutes rhythm, and review every error against the common mistakes guide.
- In the final stretch, read the scoring guide and the test day guide, and work backwards from mid-October 2026 with the revision plan.

04 Points Specific to a Cambridge G100 Application
- Your preparation timeline is earlier than for most TMUA universities. For Cambridge the TMUA is a pre-interview test, so the score already matters at the shortlisting stage. Working backwards from a test date of 15 or 16 October 2026, you should be sitting timed full papers before the end of the summer.
- Booking is entirely your responsibility. The official wording is "You must register in advance for this test", and booking closes on 28 September 2026, earlier than most applicants expect. Handle it alongside your UCAS application.
- The official wording gives no cut-off. Cambridge's official position mentions no TMUA score requirement: Colleges use the result to help decide interview shortlisting and then weigh it with the whole application. Do not plan around a rumoured pass mark.
- The test date is fixed. Candidates in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau sit on 15 or 16 October 2026; if that clashes with school exams, coordinate with your school early.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to take the TMUA for Cambridge Mathematics (G100)?
Yes. Cambridge's admission tests page for 2027 entry lists the TMUA as the compulsory pre-interview assessment for Mathematics, and you must register for it in advance yourself. Without a TMUA result, your application cannot be assessed through the normal process.
I'm applying from mainland China, Hong Kong or Macau. Which TMUA sitting should I book for Cambridge G100?
Book the October 2026 sitting: candidates in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau sit on 15 or 16 October 2026, and booking closes on 28 September 2026. Under Cambridge's rules the January window (4 to 8 January 2027) is only for mature applicants in the January round, so standard October-deadline applicants must take the October sitting.
Is there a TMUA cut-off score for Cambridge Mathematics?
Cambridge's official wording gives no TMUA cut-off. Officially, Colleges use the result to help decide interview shortlisting, then weigh it alongside the rest of the application when making offers. The TMUA is reported on a 1.0 to 9.0 scale, and a higher score strengthens your case, but the official wording sets no pass mark.
