Imperial Score Explorer

An interactive view of Imperial's 2025-entry data: ESAT across seven departments and TMUA across four, switchable between offer means, Home vs Overseas and offer rates. From Imperial's official dashboard.

ESAT · raw mark out of 27 (Imperial does not state whether this is per module or a mean across modules) · 2025 entry

"Not interviewed" means may include candidates who never sat the test. Imperial labels all of this historic data: a high score does not guarantee an offer and a low score does not rule you out.

ABOUT

How to read the numbers

Imperial publishes department-level admissions data for 2025 entry, the only university to do so at this granularity. The chart covers the ESAT across seven departments and the TMUA across four, switchable between offer-holder means, Home vs Overseas, and offer rates. Overseas offer holders out-score Home offer holders in every department (19.8 vs 14.2 in EEE, out of 27), while Overseas offer rates run lower. Two notes on the figures: ESAT scores are raw marks out of 27 (Imperial does not state whether per module or averaged), and the "not interviewed" means may include candidates who never sat the test.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How does the mark out of 27 relate to the 1 to 9 scale?
You cannot convert directly. The 27 is the raw number of correct answers per module; the 1 to 9 scale comes after official Rasch equating, and the mapping changes every sitting and is unpublished. Comparing the two directly is a common mistake.
Why are Overseas means higher but offer rates lower?
Overseas places are scarce relative to demand, so the bar is effectively higher: offer holders from overseas average higher scores. That is why applicants from China should benchmark against the Overseas column, not the overall totals.
Are these thresholds?
No. Imperial states alongside the data that it is historic, that distributions and outcomes vary year to year, and that a high score does not guarantee an offer nor a low score rule you out.
