Official anchors from the UAT-UK Explanation of Results (October 2025): the scale is designed so typical candidates score around 4.5 and approximately 10% score higher than 7.0. UAT-UK publishes no other percentiles and no cut-offs, so this tool reports position against those two anchors only.

How to read the numbers

There are three official reference points for a TMUA score: the distribution anchors in the UAT-UK Explanation of Results (typical candidate around 4.5, roughly 10% above 7.0), Imperial's published 2025-entry offer-holder means by department (historic data, not thresholds), and Durham's published scale conversion (a 6.5 from 2023 equates to a 5.0 from 2024 onwards). UAT-UK publishes no cut-offs, and most specific thresholds circulating online either have no official source or predate the 2024 rescale.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good TMUA score?
The only official anchors: typical candidates score around 4.5 and roughly 10% score above 7.0. The only department-level data comes from Imperial: 2025-entry offer-holder means of 7.6 for Mathematics (8.4 for Overseas) down to 5.3 for the Business School. Any other specific threshold has no official source.
Why do people still quote 6.5 as the competitive bar?
It usually predates the 2024 rescale. Durham states that a 6.5 from 2023 equates to a 5.0 from 2024 onwards. When you see any target, ask three things: which year, which scale, and who published it.
