Corpus Christi ESAT scores for Cambridge Engineering (H100)

In the 2025 admissions cycle, applicants who received an Engineering (H100) offer from Corpus Christi College, Cambridge averaged 6.48 on ESAT Physics, 5.98 on Mathematics 1 and 5.88 on Mathematics 2. The shape is one module on the median and two below it: Physics sits just 0.01 above the undergraduate pool median of 6.47, in 12th place of 25, while Mathematics 1 is 0.38 below its median of 6.36 and Mathematics 2 is 0.34 below its median of 6.22, both maths modules in 19th place. The spread across the three is 0.6. Everyone who applied to the college that year averaged 4.66, 4.78 and 4.57, so offer-holders sat 1.32, 1.7 and 1.31 above the field. One cell is worth remembering from the start: every offer-holder's Physics score fell between 6 and 7. These are cycle averages and extremes, not entry requirements; Cambridge publishes no ESAT score threshold of any kind.

These are averages and extremes for applicants and offer-holders at this college in the 2025 Engineering (H100) cycle, not entry requirements; Cambridge publishes no ESAT score threshold. The FOI response gives no applicant counts per college, so sample sizes are unknown and a handful of candidates can move an average; the narrow Physics range in particular deserves a question mark. Ranks are computed within the undergraduate college pool only, and are not comparable with the mature colleges, which admit applicants aged 21 and over. ESAT results are reported on a 1.0 to 9.0 scale to one decimal place. Pool ranks, pool medians, the overall three-module averages and the various gaps are calculated by FrontierVUE from the same response; Cambridge publishes no such rankings. What Corpus Christi's ESAT numbers actually are

The University's official Freedom of Information response FOI-2025-956 lists ESAT scores for Engineering (H100) applicants and offer-holders, college by college, for the 2025 admissions cycle. For Corpus Christi, the first thing to notice is not any single average but the offer range on the Physics row: every offer-holder scored between 6 and 7 on that module, while the same group runs from the mid fours all the way to 9 on both maths modules. ESAT results are reported on a 1.0 to 9.0 scale to one decimal place, so every figure below sits on that scale. Both columns are grouped by the college applied to in that cycle, and the University notes that some applicants change college or course part-way through.
Applicant averageApplicant rangeOffer-holder averageOffer-holder range
Mathematics 14.661 to 95.984.5 to 9
Physics4.781 to 8.96.486 to 7
Mathematics 24.571 to 95.884.6 to 9

The averages and the lowest and highest scores in the table come line by line from official response FOI-2025-956; the overall three-module averages of 4.67 and 6.11 are calculated by FrontierVUE from that same response. The ranges are the lowest and highest score in each group, not boundaries.

Set the three offer ranges side by side: Mathematics 1 runs from 4.5 to 9, Mathematics 2 from 4.6 to 9, yet Physics only from 6 to 7. A range that tight on one module usually means either a small group or a cohort whose Physics results really were that uniform that year; but the FOI response gives no applicant count or offer count for Corpus Christi, so neither explanation can be tested. Only one thing is certain: this is one year and one group of people, not a line drawn anywhere. Cambridge publishes no ESAT score threshold.

How to read these numbers

These figures answer the question "what did people at this college score last year", not "what do I need to score". The two look similar but are different in kind: the first is a distribution that already happened, and Cambridge has never given an answer to the second. To place Corpus Christi among all 29 colleges side by side, see the Cambridge college ESAT score comparison. 5.98 is an average, not an entry requirement
It is the average Mathematics 1 score of Corpus Christi Engineering offer-holders in the 2025 cycle. Cambridge publishes no ESAT score threshold, and no college has published a minimum of its own. Within that same group, actual Mathematics 1 scores run from 4.5 to 9; the average marks the centre of that spread, not its entrance.
Sample size unknown: the FOI gives no applicant count per college
The response gives averages and extremes only, with no applicant or offer count for any college. That matters more than usual for Corpus Christi: if only a few people sit behind the 6 to 7 Physics range, the 6.48 average is far from stable and the 12th place may be a one-year accident. Read these figures for direction, not as a stable benchmark to compare digit by digit.
Rankings are pooled: mature colleges sit outside this one
Corpus Christi's 12th place and its two 19th places are all calculated within the 25 undergraduate colleges. The mature colleges, which admit applicants aged 21 and over (Hughes Hall, St Edmund's, Wolfson, Lucy Cavendish), draw on a different pool, so rankings are computed separately and this page never lines their figures up against Corpus Christi's.
A 1.0 to 9.0 scale, and some candidates moved mid-cycle
ESAT results are reported on a 1.0 to 9.0 scale to one decimal place, so a 0.01 gap from the median or a 0.6 spread should be judged against that scale. The response also notes that some applicants move between colleges or courses during the cycle, with figures grouped by the year of application, so the group counted under Corpus Christi is not necessarily identical to the people who end up reading Engineering there.
Use this page to read a shape, not to set a target. Corpus Christi sits on the pool median for Physics and below it on both maths modules, in 19th place. That shape is worth letting into how you arrange your practice; it should not be translated into a number you have to hit. Cambridge publishes no ESAT score threshold of any kind.

Overall position

Physics on the median, both maths modules below it

Offer-holders averaged 6.11 overall, the whole applicant field 4.67

Put together, Corpus Christi's shape has two layers. The first is position: the Physics offer average of 6.48 sits all but on the 6.47 pool median, in 12th place, while both maths modules fall below their medians, Mathematics 1 by 0.38 and Mathematics 2 by 0.34, each in 19th place. The second is form: the 1.7 climb from the Physics applicant average of 4.78 is the largest of the three gaps, and the offer group's Physics scores all sat between 6 and 7, whereas both maths offer ranges run from the mid fours to 9. In other words, Physics was the module that separated the two groups most sharply, and most uniformly, at Corpus Christi that cycle. That does not make maths unimportant, nor Corpus Christi easy to get into: the FOI gives no applicant count, and a narrow range may rest on very few people.
04

Preparing with Corpus Christi's shape in mind

The sequence below follows from the shape above. It is not official advice, and not a line anyone has drawn for you. Corpus Christi's shape is unusual in one respect: the point to notice is not which module has the highest average, but the 6 to 7 Physics offer range, together with maths modules that rank low in the pool yet span almost the whole scale.
01Step one

Make Physics collapse-proof

Corpus Christi's offer group that year scored between 6 and 7 on Physics, with an average of 6.48 on the pool median and the largest gap of the three at 1.7. Getting mechanics and circuits to a point where they never produce a low score under timing fits this shape better than chasing single hard questions.

02Step two

Do not scale back maths because of the 19th place

The Mathematics 1 and Mathematics 2 offer averages of 5.98 and 5.88 rank 19th, but a rank describes where Corpus Christi sits relative to other colleges, not how much maths matters inside Corpus Christi. Both offer ranges run from the mid fours to 9, so maths scores varied widely within this college's offer group, and accuracy and speed still need to reach a steady level.

03Step three

Take your own baseline, module by module

Sit a timed paper from the past paper list at /papers/esat and record accuracy and timing for each module separately. What you are looking for is your own weakest module, not the college's ranking on that module.

04Step four

Go back to full timed sittings

Run the modules back to back to rehearse the switches and the time budget, then work through the per-question solutions and error analysis. Corpus Christi's combined offer average of 6.11 comes from none of the three collapsing, not from one spike.

Where practice weight goes for Corpus Christi's profile

Priorities inferred from the 2025 offer-group distribution, not an official requirement

Physics (12th, 6.48)Offer range 6 to 7, largest gap at 1.7
  • Get mechanics and circuits to produce no low scores under timing
  • File errors by quantity and model, not by which paper they came from
Mathematics 1 (19th, 5.98)0.38 below the 6.36 pool median, offer range 4.5 to 9
  • Target accuracy and speed, clearing arithmetic slips first
  • Keep one mixed set a week so practice does not circle the comfortable types
Mathematics 2 (19th, 5.88)0.34 below the 6.22 pool median, offer range 4.6 to 9
  • Bring algebraic manipulation and function work to a level that no longer slows the paper
  • Alternate with Mathematics 1; the two gaps are all but identical anyway

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What ESAT score do you need for an offer at Corpus Christi?
There is no such score. Cambridge publishes no ESAT threshold, and Corpus Christi has never stated a minimum of its own. What can be said is what happened in the 2025 cycle: applicants who received an offer at this college averaged 6.48 on Physics, 5.98 on Mathematics 1 and 5.88 on Mathematics 2, with lowest scores within that same group of 6, 4.5 and 4.6 and highest scores of 7, 9 and 9. On both maths modules, offers went both to candidates at the top of the scale and to candidates in the mid fours, which is not what a score threshold looks like.
Both maths modules rank 19th of 25. Is Corpus Christi easier to get into?
That inference does not hold. Corpus Christi's two maths offer averages do sit below the undergraduate pool median, by 0.38 on Mathematics 1 and 0.34 on Mathematics 2, but its Physics average of 6.48 sits right on the median in 12th place. More to the point, the FOI response gives no applicant counts, so a small group can move an average, and the narrow 6 to 7 Physics range looks like the signature of a small sample. A lower average more likely reflects who applied that year and says nothing about how hard the college is to get into.
Every offer-holder scored between 6 and 7 on Physics. Do I need a 6 to stand a chance?
That is not what the range says. 6 was the lowest Physics score in that group in the 2025 cycle and 7 the highest; the two numbers describe one year and one group of people, and with no applicant count in the FOI the group may be very small. Cambridge publishes no ESAT score threshold of any kind, and Corpus Christi has never stated a minimum of its own. Treating the bottom of a narrow range as a bar to clear is the most common misreading of this data.
How should I split time across the three modules for Corpus Christi?
Get Physics to the point where it never produces a low score under timing first, because that is where Corpus Christi's offer group separated most sharply and most uniformly that cycle: an average of 6.48, a range of 6 to 7, a gap of 1.7. Do not scale back the maths modules because of the 19th place; behind the 5.98 and 5.88 averages lie wide ranges from the mid fours to 9, and accuracy and speed still need to be steady. This is an ordering read off a distribution that already happened, not an official instruction, and you should still reassemble all three under full paper timing.
