Imperial College London Computing Degrees: TMUA Guide for 2027 Entry
Every undergraduate Computing degree at Imperial College London, from BEng/MEng Computing to the joint Mathematics and Computer Science courses, requires the TMUA for 2027 entry. The TMUA is run by UAT-UK and delivered at Pearson VUE test centres: two papers of 20 multiple-choice questions each, 150 minutes in total, reported on a 1.0 to 9.0 scale. 01 Imperial's Official Requirement: TMUA Is Compulsory Across Computing
Imperial's official TMUA page (2027 entry) is explicit: "You must take the TMUA if you are applying to our undergraduate courses in: Department of Computing (incl. joint Mathematics and Computer Science), Department of Mathematics, BSc Economics, Finance and Data Science (Business School)". In other words, every undergraduate course in the Department of Computing, including the joint Mathematics and Computer Science degrees, requires the TMUA, with no optional or exempt route.

About the test itself: the TMUA is run by UAT-UK and delivered by Pearson VUE. It consists of two papers of 20 multiple-choice questions each, 75 minutes per paper and 150 minutes in total. Paper 1 tests applications of mathematical knowledge; Paper 2 tests mathematical reasoning and logic. Results are reported on a scale of 1.0 to 9.0.

02 Key Dates and Registration for Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau
There are two test sittings for 2027 entry. Imperial accepts results from either sitting (12 to 16 October 2026, or 4 to 8 January 2027), but only counts your first attempt within the application cycle.
For candidates in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau, the dates are fixed:

Two rules to plan around from the start:
- If you are also applying to Oxford or Cambridge, you must sit the October test. There is no alternative.
- Imperial only counts the first result of each cycle, so a "try in October, retake in January" strategy does not work for Imperial. Aim to hit your target level on the first attempt.
Registration is handled through UAT-UK and Pearson VUE. Book well before the deadline.

03 How to Prepare for the TMUA with FrontierVue

A three-step plan works well:
- Know the test: read the syllabus guide, then the Paper 1 guide and the Paper 2 guide. Paper 2's logic and proof questions are the most common weak spot, so work through the logic and proof guide carefully.
- Practise systematically: structure past papers and mocks with the revision plan, and keep correcting habits with the time management guide and the common mistakes guide. With 20 questions in 75 minutes per paper, pacing is where scores are won.
- Final stretch: read the scoring guide to understand the 1.0 to 9.0 scale, and follow the test day guide for the day itself.

04 Three Things Imperial Applicants Should Note

Your first result is the one that counts (within a cycle): Imperial only uses the first attempt of each application cycle. If you are not confident by late September (the sitting 1 booking deadline is 28 September 2026) and you are not applying to Oxford or Cambridge, taking the January sitting instead can be the smarter use of your one shot. Oxbridge co-applicants do not have this choice: October is mandatory.

One TMUA can cover multiple Imperial applications: under the official wording, the compulsory list also includes the Department of Mathematics and the Business School's BSc Economics, Finance and Data Science. If you apply to several of these at Imperial, a single TMUA result serves them all.

The joint degrees count as Computing: BEng/MEng Mathematics and Computer Science (GG14/GG41) fall explicitly under "Department of Computing (incl. joint Mathematics and Computer Science)" in Imperial's wording, so the TMUA is equally compulsory. Do not assume different rules just because the course name includes Mathematics.
