Imperial College London Mathematics: TMUA Requirements (2027 Entry)
Applicants to any 2027 entry undergraduate Mathematics degree at Imperial College London must take the TMUA (Test of Mathematics for University Admission), run by UAT-UK and delivered by Pearson VUE. Imperial's Official Requirement: Compulsory for All 8 Mathematics Degrees
Imperial's official TMUA page (2027 entry) states: "You must take the TMUA if you are applying to our undergraduate courses in: Department of Computing (incl. joint Mathematics and Computer Science), Department of Mathematics, BSc Economics, Finance and Data Science (Business School)". In practice, every one of the eight Department of Mathematics degrees below requires the TMUA, with no exemption route:

About the test itself: the TMUA is run by UAT-UK and delivered by Pearson VUE. It has two papers of 20 multiple-choice questions each, 75 minutes per paper (150 minutes in total). Paper 1 tests applications of mathematical knowledge; Paper 2 tests mathematical reasoning and logic. Results are reported on a scale of 1.0 to 9.0.

Key Dates and Registration (Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau)
There are two TMUA windows for 2027 entry, booked through UAT-UK / Pearson VUE, and Imperial accepts results from either one:
- Window 1: 12 to 16 October 2026, booking deadline 28 September 2026. Candidates in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau sit on fixed dates: 15 to 16 October 2026.
- Window 2: 4 to 8 January 2027, booking deadline 21 December 2026. Candidates in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau sit on a fixed date: 8 January 2027.
Two hard rules from the official guidance: first, Imperial only counts your first attempt in each application cycle, so a January resit cannot replace an October score. Second, if you are also applying to Oxford or Cambridge, you must take the October sitting.

Three Things Imperial Applicants Should Watch

First attempt only, so timing is the strategy. Imperial accepts both windows but counts only your first sitting of the cycle. If you are not ready in October and are not applying to Oxford or Cambridge, placing your one attempt on 8 January 2027 (the fixed date for mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau) to gain roughly three extra months of preparation is a perfectly valid choice.

Oxbridge applicants have no choice to make. Under the official guidance, anyone also applying to Oxford or Cambridge must sit in October, and that score is the one Imperial will use.

Watch the booking deadlines. Bookings close on 28 September 2026 for Window 1 and 21 December 2026 for Window 2. Test dates for mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau are fixed rather than self-selected, so register early through UAT-UK / Pearson VUE.

How to Prepare with FrontierVUE
Because Imperial counts only your first attempt, past papers and mock exams matter more than usual: you need to know exactly where you stand before you walk in. A suggested route:
- Read the exam overview and the syllabus guide to map out what each paper covers.
- Train paper by paper with the Paper 1 guide and the Paper 2 guide, and use the logic and proof guide for the reasoning and proof question types unique to Paper 2.
- Build a schedule with the revision plan and drill the 20-questions-in-75-minutes pace with the time management guide.
- In the final week, go through common mistakes, scoring and the test day guide so that nothing non-mathematical costs you marks.

Is the TMUA compulsory for Imperial G100 Mathematics?
Yes. Under Imperial's official 2027 entry policy, every undergraduate course in the Department of Mathematics, including G100 BSc Mathematics, requires the TMUA with no exemption route. The same applies to G103, G104, G125, G1F3, G102, G1G3 and G1GH.
