Warwick Mathematics Degrees: TMUA Requirements for 2027 Entry
The University of Warwick uses the TMUA, the admissions test run by UAT-UK and delivered by Pearson VUE, across its mathematics degrees for 2027 entry: it is compulsory for Discrete Mathematics applicants, compulsory with a STEP alternative for Mathematics, and an optional route to an offer condition for Mathematics and Statistics and MORSE. Warwick's official requirements: eight courses, three tiers
Warwick sorts its eight mathematics-related undergraduate courses into three TMUA tiers, all taken from the Admissions Tests page on warwick.ac.uk:

What the official wording says, tier by tier:
- Discrete Mathematics (G190, G4G3): Warwick states that “All applicants will be required to take TMUA except for applicants who are eligible for a Contextual Offer”. Scores are assessed alongside GCSE results, contextual indicators and predicted grades when offers are decided.
- Mathematics (G100, G103): the wording is “All applicants will typically be required to take TMUA or STEP”, again with the Contextual Offer exemption. Offers made without the TMUA are conditional on grade 2 in any STEP paper. The UAT-UK course list likewise classifies G100 and G103 as compulsory except for contextual offers, with the STEP route set out on Warwick's own page.
- Mathematics and Statistics and MORSE (GG13, GGC3, GLN0, G0L0): the TMUA is optional. Most offers include the option of meeting the conditions with 5.0 in the TMUA or grade 2 in any STEP, and Warwick states plainly that “Applicants who do not take TMUA will not be at a disadvantage”.

Test format, key dates and registration
The TMUA is run by UAT-UK and delivered on computer by Pearson VUE. It has two papers of 20 multiple-choice questions each, 75 minutes per paper and 150 minutes in total: Paper 1 tests the application of mathematical knowledge, Paper 2 tests mathematical reasoning and logic. Results are reported on a 1.0 to 9.0 scale.
For 2027 entry there are two sittings, one in October and one in January. Candidates in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau sit on fixed dates: 15-16 October 2026 or 8 January 2027. Registration is through UAT-UK / Pearson VUE, and booking early is sensible as seats are limited.
The Warwick wording quoted on this page does not name a specific sitting. Policies on sittings and score use do vary between universities, so if you are applying to several, plan around the strictest one and check the current Warwick and UAT-UK pages before you book.

How to prepare with FrontierVUE

Set against Warwick's 2025 entry reference (most Mathematics offers went to applicants scoring 5.0 or above, see the next section), 5.0 is the floor to aim past, not the target itself.

Warwick-specific notes: the STEP alternative and score reference
- The STEP alternative is a Warwick signature. For G100 and G103, applicants who do not take the TMUA can still receive an offer, conditional on grade 2 in any STEP paper; for GG13, GGC3, GLN0 and G0L0, most offers likewise include a choice between 5.0 in the TMUA and grade 2 in any STEP.
- Contextual Offer exemption: applicants eligible for a Warwick Contextual Offer are exempt from the TMUA requirement on the compulsory-tier courses (G190, G4G3, G100, G103).
- A reference point, not a cut-off: for 2025 entry, Warwick's admissions tests page indicated that most Mathematics (G100, G103) offers went to applicants with TMUA 5.0 or higher. Treat that as a historical reference, not a published threshold; it can move from year to year.
- The TMUA is not the whole picture: for Discrete Mathematics (G190, G4G3) in particular, Warwick assesses TMUA scores alongside GCSE results, contextual indicators and predicted grades.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to take the TMUA for Warwick Mathematics (G100/G103), or can I use STEP instead?
Warwick's official wording is that all applicants will typically be required to take the TMUA or STEP, with an exemption for those eligible for a Contextual Offer. You can receive an offer without a TMUA score, but it will be conditional on grade 2 in any STEP paper. Applicants who want the condition settled early usually sit the TMUA first.
Will I be at a disadvantage applying to Warwick MORSE (GLN0) or Maths and Statistics (GG13) without the TMUA?
