Warwick Computer Science and Data Science: TMUA Guide for 2027 Entry

For 2027 entry, the University of Warwick uses the TMUA as the core admissions test for its Computer Science degrees: applicants to BSc and MEng Computer Science and to Computer Science with Business Studies are required to sit it (unless eligible for a Contextual Offer), while for the Data Science degrees the TMUA is one optional route to meeting the offer. The TMUA is run by UAT-UK and delivered by Pearson VUE: two papers, 20 multiple-choice questions each, 75 minutes per paper, reported on a 1.0 to 9.0 scale. This page brings together Warwick's official policy, the key dates (including the fixed sittings for mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau), and how to prepare with FrontierVUE's past papers and mock tests.

02 Key Dates and Registration (Mainland China / Hong Kong / Macau)

The TMUA is run by UAT-UK and delivered by Pearson VUE, and registration goes through UAT-UK / Pearson VUE. The test has two papers of 20 multiple-choice questions each, 75 minutes per paper (150 minutes in total): Paper 1 tests applications of mathematical knowledge, Paper 2 tests mathematical reasoning and logic, and results are reported on a 1.0 to 9.0 scale. There are two sittings for 2027 entry, October 2026 and January 2027, and candidates in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau sit on fixed dates.

01Step 1

Learn how the two papers differ

Start with the exam overview and the syllabus guide, then compare the Paper 1 and Paper 2 guides; Paper 2's distinctive logic and proof material is worth a separate close read.
02Step 2

Work through papers under timed conditions

Begin with the two free most recent past papers under timed conditions, then work through all 18 past papers and 10 mocks following the revision plan guide.
03Step 3

Sharpen the details in the final stretch

Use the time management and common mistakes guides to sharpen execution, read the scoring guide to understand the 1.0 to 9.0 scale, and run through the test day guide before you sit.
If you are applying to Warwick Computer Science (G400, G403, GN42), consistency matters most: with a holistic assessment and no published cut-off, reliable timed performance beats chasing a single target score.
04

04 Warwick-Specific Points to Watch

A few points that are easy to misread, one by one.
The Contextual Offer exemption applies to the required-test policy
The requirement for the three Computer Science courses (G400, G403, GN42) has one exception: applicants eligible for a Contextual Offer are not required to sit the TMUA. Eligibility is determined by Warwick.
There is no published cut-off for Computer Science
The official position is that TMUA scores are assessed alongside GCSEs, contextual indicators and predicted grades to determine offers, so do not treat any number circulating online as an official threshold for G400, G403 or GN42.
The Data Science 5.0 is not a Computer Science threshold
TMUA 5.0 (or grade 2 in any STEP) is the optional route included in most offers for 7G73 and G304; it belongs to the Data Science policy and cannot be transplanted onto the Computer Science courses.
Skipping the TMUA does not hurt a Data Science application, but taking it adds a route
Warwick states that applicants who do not take the TMUA will not be at a disadvantage; conversely, a strong mathematician who scores 5.0 gains an extra way to meet the offer, and grade 2 in any STEP works too.
Every statement on this page about how these five courses (G400, G403, GN42, 7G73 and G304) use the score comes from the official Admissions Tests page on warwick.ac.uk, and the test dates and booking deadlines come from UAT-UK's official schedule. Contextual Offer eligibility is determined by Warwick, and test centre availability and registration windows are as published by UAT-UK / Pearson VUE.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to take the TMUA for Warwick Computer Science (G400)?
Yes. Warwick's official policy is that all applicants must take the TMUA except those eligible for a Contextual Offer, and the same applies to the MEng (G403) and Computer Science with Business Studies (GN42). Scores are assessed alongside GCSEs, contextual indicators and predicted grades to determine offers.
What TMUA score do I need for Warwick Computer Science?
Warwick publishes no fixed cut-off for its Computer Science courses (G400, G403, GN42); officially, TMUA scores are weighed together with GCSEs, contextual indicators and predicted grades. The only concrete TMUA figure in Warwick's policy for these five courses is the 5.0 in the Data Science optional route, which applies to 7G73 and G304, not to Computer Science.
Will I be at a disadvantage applying to Warwick Data Science (7G73) without the TMUA?
No. Warwick states explicitly that applicants who do not take the TMUA will not be at a disadvantage. At the same time, most offers for 7G73 and the MSci G304 include the option to meet requirements via 5.0 in TMUA or grade 2 in any STEP, so a good score gives you an extra route to meeting your offer.
When do candidates in mainland China sit the TMUA for Warwick?
There are two sittings for 2027 entry, and candidates in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau sit on fixed dates: 15 to 16 October 2026 for the October sitting, and 8 January 2027 for the January sitting. Registration goes through UAT-UK / Pearson VUE, and Warwick's official policy does not restrict which sitting you use, so pick the one that fits your timeline.
