Warwick Mathematics Degrees: TMUA Requirements for 2027 Entry

The University of Warwick uses the TMUA, the admissions test run by UAT-UK and delivered by Pearson VUE, across its mathematics degrees for 2027 entry: it is compulsory for Discrete Mathematics applicants, compulsory with a STEP alternative for Mathematics, and an optional route to an offer condition for Mathematics and Statistics and MORSE. This page sets out the official requirement for each of the eight UCAS codes, the test dates for candidates in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau, and how to prepare with FrontierVUE's TMUA question bank.

Discrete Mathematics (G190, G4G3)
Compulsory: all applicants must take the TMUA unless eligible for a Contextual Offer
Mathematics (G100, G103)
Applicants typically take the TMUA or STEP; an offer made without a TMUA score carries a condition of grade 2 in any STEP paper
Maths and Statistics, MORSE (GG13, GGC3, GLN0, G0L0)
Optional: most offers can be met with 5.0 in the TMUA or grade 2 in any STEP
What you sit
One test: Paper 1 and Paper 2, 20 multiple-choice questions each, 150 minutes in total

Warwick's official requirements: eight courses, three tiers

Warwick sorts its eight mathematics-related undergraduate courses into three TMUA tiers, all taken from the Admissions Tests page on warwick.ac.uk. Find your UCAS code below first, then read across the tiers to see how they differ.

Compulsory (Discrete Mathematics)

G190 · G4G3

Contextual Offer exemptionApplicants eligible for a Warwick Contextual Offer are exempt from the TMUA requirementThe same exemption applies to applicants eligible for a Warwick Contextual OfferWarwick states the exemption for the compulsory-tier courses; for these four codes the TMUA is optional in any case
Route without the TMUAThe Warwick wording quoted on this page sets out no STEP alternative for these two codesAn offer made without a TMUA score is conditional on grade 2 in any STEP paperMost offers provide a choice between 5.0 in the TMUA and grade 2 in any STEP

The UAT-UK course list likewise classifies G100 and G103 as compulsory except for contextual offers, with the STEP route set out on Warwick's own page.

Test format, key dates and registration

The TMUA is run by UAT-UK and delivered on computer by Pearson VUE. The two papers test different things: Paper 1 tests the application of mathematical knowledge, Paper 2 tests mathematical reasoning and logic.

How to prepare with FrontierVUE

FrontierVUE's TMUA bank currently holds 18 sets of past papers (2015 to 2023, including the official specimen), 10 mock sets and 971 questions in total, each with a detailed worked explanation and a Chinese translation. The two most recent past paper sets are free to try. A workable sequence:
01Step 1

Locate your tier first

Start with the TMUA exam overview and the syllabus guide, and check which Warwick tier the code you are applying to sits in.
02Step 2

Work the papers separately

Work the papers separately with the Paper 1 guide and Paper 2 guide; Paper 2's logic and proof questions are the usual weak spot, so pair them with the logic and proof guide.
03Step 3

Full papers, then the run-up to test day

Drill full papers in the TMUA practice hub, pace yourself with the revision plan and the time management guide, and before test day review common mistakes, how scoring works and the test day guide.
Set against Warwick's 2025 entry reference (most Mathematics offers, G100 and G103, went to applicants scoring 5.0 or above, see the next section), our advice is to treat 5.0 as the floor to aim past rather than the target itself. The 5.0 is a historical reference figure, not a cut-off published by Warwick.
04

Warwick-specific notes: the STEP alternative and score reference

These are the points most easily misread when applying to Warwick's mathematics degrees.
The STEP alternative is a Warwick signature
For G100 and G103, applicants who do not take the TMUA can still receive an offer, conditional on grade 2 in any STEP paper; for GG13, GGC3, GLN0 and G0L0, most offers likewise include a choice between 5.0 in the TMUA and grade 2 in any STEP.
Contextual Offer exemption
Applicants eligible for a Warwick Contextual Offer are exempt from the TMUA requirement on the compulsory-tier courses (G190, G4G3, G100, G103).
The TMUA is not the whole picture
For Discrete Mathematics (G190, G4G3) in particular, Warwick assesses TMUA scores alongside GCSE results, contextual indicators and predicted grades, so one test score does not decide everything.
A reference point, not a cut-off: for 2025 entry, Warwick's admissions tests page indicated that most Mathematics (G100, G103) offers went to applicants with TMUA 5.0 or higher. Treat that as a historical reference, not a published threshold; it can move from year to year.
Independence: FrontierVUE is not affiliated with UAT-UK, Pearson VUE or the University of Warwick. This page summarises what those bodies publish; the current Warwick and UAT-UK announcements remain the authority on what is required.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to take the TMUA for Warwick Mathematics (G100/G103), or can I use STEP instead?
Warwick's official wording is that all applicants will typically be required to take the TMUA or STEP, with an exemption for those eligible for a Contextual Offer. You can receive an offer without a TMUA score, but it will be conditional on grade 2 in any STEP paper. Applicants who want the condition settled early usually sit the TMUA first.
Will I be at a disadvantage applying to Warwick MORSE (GLN0) or Maths and Statistics (GG13) without the TMUA?
No. Warwick states directly that applicants who do not take the TMUA will not be at a disadvantage for these courses. That said, most offers include the option of meeting conditions with TMUA 5.0 or grade 2 in any STEP, so a solid TMUA score gives you an extra route to meeting your offer.
What TMUA score do I need for Warwick Mathematics?
Warwick publishes no fixed cut-off. Its reference for 2025 entry was that most Mathematics (G100/G103) offers went to applicants with TMUA 5.0 or above, and the offer-condition option for the Statistics and MORSE courses is also framed around 5.0. Treat 5.0 as the floor and aim higher.
When and how do candidates in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macau take the TMUA for Warwick?
For 2027 entry there are October and January sittings; candidates in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau sit on fixed dates, 15-16 October 2026 or 8 January 2027. Register through UAT-UK / Pearson VUE. The test is computer-based, with two papers of 20 multiple-choice questions and 150 minutes in total.
