Colleges use the result to help decide interview shortlisting, then weigh it alongside the rest of the application when deciding offers.

03 Preparing for the Cambridge ESAT with FrontierVUE

UAT-UK does not release ESAT past papers, so the quality of your substitute question bank matters more than anything. The ESAT's predecessors are the NSAA and ENGAA, and FrontierVUE has reorganised archive papers from those tests into the current ESAT module structure, each question carrying a worked explanation and a Chinese translation.

The route below is our suggested one, not an official procedure, so adjust the pace to your own progress.
01Step 1

Pick your modules first

Mathematics 1 is compulsory; choose the other two from Biology / Chemistry / Physics / Mathematics 2 after reading the module selection guide.
02Step 2

Work through each module's syllabus and question styles

Go module by module through the guides for Mathematics 1, Mathematics 2, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, covering the ones you will sit.
03Step 3

Drill archive papers on a weekly plan

Start from the practice hub with the revision plan guide. Twenty-seven questions in 40 minutes is a pacing challenge, so train it early with the time management guide.
04Step 4

Finish with full-format mocks

Run complete 120-minute sittings on Frontier Original ESAT-format papers, and read the scoring guide to understand the 1.0 to 9.0 scale.

04 Cambridge-Specific Notes: Choosing Modules, Reading Scores

Choosing modules: the two optional papers for Natural Sciences (BCF0)
For Natural Sciences (BCF0), your two optional modules should track the first-year direction you intend to take at Cambridge and your strongest A Level / IB subjects. A physical route and a biological route point to different combinations, so do not copy someone else's choice. The module selection guide walks through the trade-offs.
Reading your score: how Cambridge uses it for Natural Sciences (BCF0)
Each module is scaled 1.0 to 9.0. The only official position from Cambridge is this: Colleges use the ESAT to help shortlist for interview, then weigh it with the whole application at the offer stage. For College-level context, see the Cambridge college scores guide.
Cambridge's official wording gives no per-course cut-off, and there is none for Natural Sciences (BCF0). Any "safe score" circulating online is not official, so do not build your target around one.
Do not forget registration itself: Cambridge's own wording stresses that you must register in advance. For October-round applicants there is no recovery after 28 September 2026, so book the ESAT at the same time as you submit UCAS.
